This means you can be a morning person or a night owl – as long as you meet client deadlines and deliver exceptional results. Personally, I’m no good until at least my third cup of coffee, so I’m so thankful for the flexibility that my role gives me!
  • Strategic Breaks: It’s so important to incorporate strategic breaks into your workday so that you can maintain focus and avoid burnout. For me, this is an absolute must! Because taking care of myself is just as important as taking care of my clients. I use these breaks to recharge and stretch… usually a long walk or an afternoon bootcamp session (if I’m feeling particularly wired) does the trick for me!
  • Time Management: It’s important to optimise your workday with time management techniques to ensure maximum productivity. I like to do a bit of time-blocking personally. Breaking down my tasks into manageable chunks, prioritising the most critical tasks, and allocating dedicated time slots for different activities.

As a virtual marketing manager, your role is pivotal in driving digital transformation for business success. Here are some key responsibilities and daily activities you can expect:

  • Developing Marketing Strategies: Creating powerful marketing strategies that align with client goals, targeting their ideal audience, identifying market opportunities, conducting research, and mapping out comprehensive plans to fuel business growth is all part of the job. But let me tell you, the brain capacity required for this is immense! Hence the need for the strategic breaks we already mentioned.
  • Creating and Executing Campaigns: Bringing marketing strategies to life by creating impactful campaigns is literally my fave part of the job! I spend a big chunk of my time developing compelling content, managing social media accounts, optimising website performance, and implementing digital advertising campaigns.
  • Analysing Data: Monitoring and analysing key marketing metrics to track campaign performance and identifying areas for improvement is part and parcel of what I do too. By using data analytics tools I can gain insights and make data-driven decisions to optimise my marketing efforts. Basically leaving nothing to guesswork!
  • Communicating with Clients: Probably one of the most important parts of the role is communicating with clients. I do this through regular Teams as well as physical meetings. Taking the time to collaborate with clients to better understand their needs, provide updates on projects, and address any concerns promptly.

So, a day in the life of a virtual marketing manager is all sunshine and roses then? Not exactly, no. Being a virtual marketing manager comes with exciting opportunities but also with its own unique challenges:

  • Working Remotely: While remote work offers freedom and flexibility, it also requires mountains of self-discipline. I’m not going to lie, it took me a bit of time to make this transition! You should absolutely embrace the opportunity to work in your preferred place, but be sure to stay connected and in regular contact with all your clients, colleagues and suppliers.
  • Staying Ahead of Industry Trends: Everyday’s a school day at black&blanco! Mainly because the digital marketing landscape is fast paced and constantly evolving – I mean have you got your head around GA4 yet? It’s so important to be up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies, so, continuous learning and training is a must for a virtual marketing manager. I rely heavily on the knowledge shared by the lovely experts I work with too!
  • Building Relationships with Clients: Business is actually such a lovely place for meeting new and interesting people isn’t it? But, when these lovely people turn into clients, building strong relationships with them is essential for success. And guess what? Communication is absolutely key here! I put a lot of effort into regularly checking in with my clients to build trust and understanding. It’s no secret that client satisfaction and referrals are key to expanding most businesses. But even if it wasn’t, looking after my clients is the biggest joy my role brings to me.

To excel as a virtual marketing manager, you’ll need certain tools and resources:

  • Project Management Software: You’ve got to embrace project management tools like Trello or my personal favourite Basecamp to stay organised, manage tasks efficiently, and to easily collaborate with team members and clients.
  • Communication Tools: I quickly learnt that communication platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams are a virtual marketing manager’s best friends! They allow me to maintain seamless communication with clients and team members, no matter their location.
  • Marketing Analytics Platforms: Investing in analytics tools like Google Analytics has allowed me to gain valuable insights into marketing campaigns as well as website performance, which is essential when you want to make informed data-driven decisions.
